The institute was established in 1965 by the order No. 74 of the State Committee of refinery industry at State Planning Committee of the USSR as a chief research institute in the field of production and consumption of light hydrocarbon feed.

In January 2011 a specialist of the insitute visited Research center of CRTC of American oil company Chevron and presented our technologies of hydrocarbon feed desulfurization.
In January-February 2011 specialists of J.S.”VNIIUS” visited the Islamic Republic of Iran to present our technologic developments for Iranian National Oil Company.
A contract has been signed with Kazkhstan-American company “Tengizchevroil-Kazakhstan“ on modification of a technology of crude oil demercaptanization and supply of “IVKAZ” desulfurization catalyst for plants of crude oil and propane and butane demercaptanization.
